Giants Wary Of Struggling 49ers
Tight ends Garrett Celek and Blake Bell would be in line again to get all the snaps on offense for the 49ers at the position if Davis and McDonald are still unable to make a go of it against the Giants.
With second-year linebacker Devon Kennard limited by a hamstring injury, look to see who plays the strong-side spot. With a win and a Dallas Cowboys loss, the Giants will be in first place in the NFC East. To get to first the Giants will have to contain Colin Kaepernick and the rest of the 49ers on Sunday night.
WR Victor Cruz- After appearing ready to comeback next week, Cruz re-injured his calf midway through the week. If the 49ers are unable to slow down Eli Manning and Odell Beckham, they would find themselves with a 1-4 start with four more tough games on the schedule before the bye week comes in Week 10.
LB Jonathan Casillas was added to the Giants injury report with a calf ailment. He said the Giants remain hopeful that Kennard can play on Sunday.
If the Giants can strike quickly, and, as mentioned above, keep their lead, it’s unlikely that San Francisco will be able to answer back. He passed the concussion protocol and should be good to go for Sunday night. The young corner is listed questionable with a groin injury. In their game against the Bills on Sunday, they managed to hold the offense to only 77 yards, shutting down Tyrod Taylor and Karlos Williams.
Many people know the Giants have struggled mightily against mobile quarterbacks in years past.
OT Ereck Flowers- The Giants rookie tackle is listed as probable with an ankle injury. The Giants receiver was criticized by the Bills for being a “prima donna” last week and he was fined nearly $9,000 for throwing a jab at Buffalo safety Duke Williams after being blocked on an interception return.
Ohm Youngmisuk has covered the Giants, Jets and the National Football League since 2006.
For the 49ers, TE Vernon Davis (knee) has been ruled out, while Ahmad Brooks is doubtful, though it has been reported that he will miss the game following the death of his sister.
Yours truly doesn’t expect this game to be close at any point with the exception of the opening kickoff. Week 5 will be no different, as the 49ers D/ST is not a start-worthy fantasy option as they travel to New York to face the Giants.
It won’t get any easier against the Giants, who have a sturdy defense especially against the run, upon which San Francisco heavily relies.
