Gigi Hadid was told to lose weight
Too fat to model? However, Hadid reveals that it hasn’t always been so easy as she struggled to find representation in the beginning of her career because of her body, the model revealed in an interview with The Daily Mail.
Topshop honcho Sir Philip Green told press, “Working with Gigi Hadid on this campaign continues to strengthen our global vision for the Topshop brand”.
“When I first went to visit different agencies in New York, a lot of them were like, you have to lose a lot of weight”, she explained.
“It’s amusing because once you start to embrace what you have it starts to be what you’re known for”, she said.
It appears that the agencies found the blonde’s athletic and powerful body unappealing.
“Once I started modelling one of my things was like yeah, I don’t need to be a man volleyball player but I also don’t want to be like [holds up her little finger] two pounds soaking wet”, she declared.
“I started to just think about how insane it is that I was just sitting there shooting that cover and it’s cool when you kind of get to take a second to realise like what’s really happening”, the supermodel told the Daily Mail.
Despite the rejection, Gigi stayed on her course and eventually signed with IMG Models and she quickly sky rocketed to super model status, curves and all.
Since Gigi Hadid’s foray into modeling, she has walked catwalks for top designers and even booked modeling gigs for “Sports Illustrated“, Guess, Tom Ford and Victoria’s Secret. We never doubted for a moment that you were runway material Gigi! However, as Hadid recalled, many of them had a problem with her body.
