Gini Wijnaldum critical of Everton tackles in Merseyside derby
Jurgen Klopp has given Liverpoolfc.com an update on Sadio Mane after the attacker limped out of Liverpool’s 3-1 win over Everton this afternoon.
Liverpool did suffer the loss of Mane early in the second half, the forward falling awkwardly after trying to win the ball from Leighton Baines. “You can lose against anyone, they are all good opponents”, the 26-year-old added.
“When I saw him in the dressing room, it didn’t look as if he would be ready for Wednesday”.
And after Saturday’s match he criticised the Liverpool bench over their reaction to tackles during the contest.
The Reds brushed aside their Merseyside rivals at Anfield, as goals from Sadio Mane, Philippe Coutinho and Divock Origi saw them complete the double over the Toffees.
Dejan Lovren has slammed Ross Barkley for not apologising for a tackle that could have done serious damage to the Liverpool defender.
Of Origi’s 26 Premier League appearances this season, only seven have come from the start and he hopes to further press his case to Klopp over the closing weeks of the campaign.
The Liverpool centre-half said: “He didn’t apologise and that is the only thing I do not like”.
“I thought it was deserved but like always you have to learn a bit from the game”, said the German.
“What I don’t like too much really is individual comments about the performances of the players after the game”. English football loves passion and commitment and you don’t want to curb that, but intelligence also comes into it. And if his decision making doesn’t improve, then he won’t improve as a player.I see him as the kid in the playground.
Everton arrived at Anfield in seventh place and as the league’s form team in 2017, but coach Ronald Koeman played a young lineup because of injury problems and it told. It will be headlines if I show you my leg.
Everton were second-best for most of the match, yet Koeman defended the display of his players.
“The team comes first and I’m very happy to help the team and the supporters and the club, of course”.
“We had six players under 22”.
“We like to dominate the game, but we know that we will have to defend the strengths of United”. We made it really hard. We came back after an unlucky goal, a good goal, but an unlucky goal between the legs, which is always hard for the goalkeeper.
