Girl, 6, found hanging by scarf in Sydney child care centre
A SIX-year-old girl has been taken to hospital after she was found hanging unconscious from play equipment in Sydney’s west.
The girl was taken to hospital in a critical condition and it is believed she is now in an induced coma.
A worker discovered the girl, who was playing on the playground equipment and became caught when her scarf wrapped around the bars causing her to hang, police say.
Initial reports to police said that a staff member found the girl.
Christine Erskine form Kidsafe NSW said yesterday the incident was a “freak accident”, but a warning for parents and childcare facilities to ensure children were not put in any danger.
It is not known how long she had been there for.
Ms Erksine said the changes could address any regulation gap created by the “hybrid situation” where a commercial play centre also operated as a occasional care centre.
The owner of Kidz Club Pty Ltd, Cameron Thomas, refused to comment on the incident.
