Girl Scouts kick off ‘Cookie’ sales in time for Super Bowl
“I like to sell cookies because it’s very nice to sell cookies”, she told BuzzFeed News.
Kim transferred Stormi’s cookie sales to an online portal through the Girl Scouts called Digital Cookies. In less than a week, she managed to exceed her goal – she sold over 3,000 boxes of cookies.
“Cookie season is the largest fundraising activity of the year so it’s important that we’re providing Girl Scouts the tools they need to capitalize on every opportunity available”, said Girl Scouts NorCal CEO Marina Park. She wrote, “Selling cookies is a lot of work”. Two New York improv comedians even gave free admission to their January 29th show for any audience members who showed proof of purchasing Stormi’s cookies. She wanted people to choose the option “deliver in person”.
For her part, Stormi told BuzzFeed she plans to donate the delicious treats to foster kids in her area every year. As a parent of transgender children, this made me livid!
“Our programming introduces and opens girls up to so many things – like STEM, financial literacy, and outdoor experiences – that are vital for a successful future”, says the Girl Scout website.
“She chose to donate boxes to something close to her heart – which is foster care”, Strobel said.
The Girl Scouts have allowed transgender girls to join since 2011, CNN reported last spring. Jay Strobel, a spokesman for Girl Scouts of Southern Illinois, told The Washington Post Stormi’s efforts are “amazing” in an interview. Girl Scouts of the United States of America also serves American girls and their classmates attending American or global schools overseas in 90 countries.
Beverly Hood said the organization does a great job of developing girls as future business leaders and entrepreneurs, teaching them life-long lessons.
Beverly Hood says she is most proud to see her daughter take on a leadership role with some of the younger Girl Scouts. I had never driven in snow, never lived 15 minutes from the city that never sleeps, and never had to know my coffee order before I got to the front of the line… or I would be asked to step aside.
