Girl who lost family in fire wants lots of Christmas cards
She was only five-years-old at the time, and almost died herself. Now 8, Safyre has endured many surgeries for burns over 75 percent of her body.
Sa’fyre now lives with her aunt and uncle and their twins in Rotterdam in the Albany area after the unsolved arson blaze in nearby Schenectady killed her father, her young sister and her two toddler brothers, Dolder said.
Safyre’s aunt Liz Dodler, who has custody of Safyre, told Buzzfeed she bought a tree to hang Christmas cards on this year, and Safyre instantly got excited. Safyre’s mother, Jennica Duell, stands accused of perjury after prosecutors allege she gave false testimony that landed an innocent man in jail for the crime. And, in a matter of days, Safyre has received fourteen cards from throughout the country, from Florida to New Hampshire, to California.
Like most 8-year-olds, Sa’fyre loves Christmas.
Despite her incredible ordeal, she only wants one thing this holiday season and that’s Christmas cards.
The internet and worldwide media have taken notice of Safyre’s wish and helped spread the word to make her Christmas more merry this year. “When she opens these cards, the twinkle in her eye and the sparkle in her smile are priceless”.
Dolder’s husband got a new job a couple weeks ago, and Dolder said interested readers can still send holiday greetings to Sa’fyre Terry, P.O. Box 6126, Schenectady, NY, 12306. “She is a miracle and has a strong will to live and recover”. A family friend set up a youcaring.com page to help them with medical expenses. “Once you meet her, she is unforgettable”.
