Glennon to get $43.5 million deal from Chicago

Some other rumors have also tied Glennon’s new team to wide receiver Cordarrelle Patterson and defensive backs Stephon Gilmore along with a host of potential safety additions.

The Chicago Bears released quarterback Jay Cutler on Thursday after eight seasons with the team.

Cutler’s cut creates $14 million in cap space, roughly the amount new expected starter, Mike Glennon, is set to receive from Chicago, ironically enough. I’m hoping for the best, but I’m not getting my hopes up.

It’s a bit of a head scratching move, as Glennon has not started a game since 2014. Bouye also had just one interception, which is something the Bears need way more of in 2017, and he only has one season as a Pro Bowl caliber player. Seattle knows that all too well after Matt Flynn didn’t transform into another Matt Hasselbeck after arriving in 2012 from Green Bay. He was drafted in the first round of the 2006 NFL Draft by the Denver Broncos, perceived as the next quarterback of the long haul for Mike Shanahan.

WR Pierre Garcon (Washington) to San Francisco. He had decent success as a rookie in 2013 out of N.C. State, making 13 starts for the Buccaneers and throwing for 2,608 yards and 19 touchdowns with nine interceptions. Glennon a year ago only threw for 75 yards and one touchdown.

FB Patrick DiMarco (Atlanta) to Buffalo, for $8.5 million over four years, per NFL Network. After that, the Buccaneers drafted Jameis Winston as their first overall pick in 2015. It’ll be even more important to address that with Glennon starting. Cutler is much more athletic, is able to avoid sacks better, and has just as good of an arm as Glennon. That not-so-dynamic duo has bungled the quarterback position from the start.

“[We look for] a guy that raises all boats, as far as work ethic”, Bears coach John Fox said at the combine, when asked about what he wants in a QB.

Cutler, an 11-year National Football League veteran, played in Chicago for parts of eight years (2009-16).

Unfortunately for the Bears, Gase did too good a job. He was Cutler’s quarterback coach in both spots.
