Global Release Day Shifts Today — News Music Fridays
Music is now a border-less business that has grown increasingly digital as artists promote their music on social media platforms.
The move means that the weekly charts will be announced on Fridays, not their traditional Sunday slot, with The Official Chart with Greg James on BBC Radio 1 being broadcast at the same time. If you see movies here, they all release on Fridays.

The survey was commissioned in October 2014 as part of broad-ranging consultation, but its results can now be revealed following the recorded music industry’s decision to switch to a global release day from Friday, 10th July 2015. New release days have varied around the world for many years – often for historical reasons, ranging from Mondays in the United Kingdom and France, through Tuesdays in North America, Wednesdays in Japan to Fridays in Australia, Germany and Ireland. And artistes undoubtedly profit as their followers get entry to their music on the similar time the world over. “I think that’s the idea”. This cuts down piracy too as there will be no gap in release dates between territories.
