Glory Johnson pleads not guilty in domestic violence case
Johnson’s attorney said Wednesday that she has entered a not guilty plea in the domestic violence case involving fellow WNBA star Griner.
Click’s claims comes from reports that Johnson is now on a slashed salary from the WNBA due to her pregnancy, which also makes her unfit to play overseas this winter.
The $20,000 per month request from Johnson isn’t exactly peanuts for a WNBA player.
The Glory Johnson and Brittney Griner saga is far from over. Griner filed for an annulment on June 5, a day after Johnson announced she’s pregnant. The womens’ May 8 marriage lasted less than a month.
A hearing to look over evidence is scheduled for August 17 at the Maricopa County Central Building in Phoenix. Griner, who plays for the Phoenix Mercury, returned to the team June 27 after serving her suspension.
KSAZ reported that Griner’s attorney has filed a motion with the court arguing that neither party should be entitled to spousal support, although she, too, requested that Johnson pay for her legal fees.
The relationship between Griner and Johnson started with a whirlwind romance that turned ugly just weeks before their fairy tale, mountaintop wedding when both Griner and Johnson ended up in jail over a physical domestic dispute.
Johnson and Griner were both arrested after an April 22 fight at their Arizona home.
In addition, Johnson is requesting Griner to continue paying for a Merceds Benz auto which the latter bought her, per espnW.
In the June 29 filing, Johnson said she can not seek alternative employment away from playing basketball because it is a “high-risk multiple pregnancy”.
After this event, the WNBA suspended both players.
If convicted, the Tulsa Shock celebrity could face up to six months in jail for each count.
Johnson says in he petition that the money given to her will go towards, among other things, ‘household assistance, personal trainers, and medical care not covered by her current insurance.’.
