GM warns: Using windshield wipers could set motor on fire
General Motors is recalling its 2016 model year, Lambda-platformed full-size crossovers – the Chevrolet Traverse, Buick Enclave, and GMC Acadia – over a potential issue with the windshield wiper motor that can result in a fire.
About all GM is saying is the defect occurred during manufacturing of the new SUVs and using the wipers can cause the motor to overheat.
The Fix: Dealers will replace the windshield wiper motor cover assembly for free.
The company says no fires have happened outside the plant.
GM said if owners can’t get to a dealership for the fix because of rainy weather, the automakers will arrange to pick up the vehicle for servicing. Further, GM says owners should not drive in the rain or do anything that would cause the wipers to be activated.
Numerous affected vehicles are in dealer stock and will not be sold until repairs are made.
If you have questions about this recall, you’re encouraged to call Buick customer service at 800-521-7300, Chevrolet customer service at 800-222-1020, or GMC customer service at 800-462-8782, and ask about recall #15780.
GM sent out recall notices by Federal Express on September 30, 2015, so if your vehicle is affected by the recall, you should’ve received something by now.
