Goa Forward Party president resigns in protest against support to BJP
“Governor Mridula Sinha has appointed Manohar Parrikar, the Leader of the Goa BJP legislature party, as the chief minister of Goa”, Rupesh Kumar Thakur, Secretary to Governor stated in a press note issued on Sunday night.
The Congress, which won 17 seats, and the BJP are wooing the smaller parties to form government in the 40-member House, where the majority mark is 21.
On Sunday, NPP President Conrad Sangma had declared his outfit’s support to the BJP to form government in trhe state.
Parrikar is going back to Goa, where he will take over as the coastal state’s chief minister.
Admitting that the “incumbency” factor played one of the roles which prevented the BJP from the securing more seats, Parrikar said, “We don’t try to pass on the buck; we all are responsible for the fractured mandate”.
The MGP had snapped ties with the BJP ahead of the Assembly elections over former CM Laxmikant Parsekar’s style of functioning.
In Manipur, the BJP bagged support from three NDA constituents – the National People’s Party (NPP), the Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) and the Naga People’s Front (NPF). “The Modi government through the Governors, who are acting as its stooges, is subverting the law and democracy”, Surjewala said. Speculations are rife that over a dozen Congress MLAs might quit the party and defect to the BJP because they are not in favour of Singh becoming the leader of the Congress Legislature Party (CLP) again.
Before the BJP came to power at the Centre, Jaitley was the leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha from June 2009 to May 2014. In the last decade, the BJP has never managed to open an account except AL Hek, who joined the Congress even as he was elected on party tickets in the 2008 poll. In various states, the saffron party had won the race by just a whisker!
But it was not yet clear whether Robindro has moved on his own or got the clearance of his party supremo West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. While the BJP is also in touch with the NCP, that won one seat, the latter was yet to officially reach out to the BJP.
