GOG Galaxy gets first major update
Version 1.1 of GOG Galaxy, which introduces update rollback, goes live today and also updates the service’s interface and social features. What this means is, you can revert a game to its state prior to being updated.
GOG (formerly Good Old Games) launched back in 2008 as a one-stop shop for older titles without any DRM restrictions.
“We know that patches can occasionally break a game or affect your mods”, Piotr Karwowski, GOG’s Vice President of Online Tech, said in a prepared statement.
GOG Galaxy users can now click on a selected game and roll it back to its previous version.
But the problem that we have here, is that GOG Galaxy doesn’t offer the latest games, with one of the most bleeding edge games being The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.
As well as rollbacks, the 1.1 update includes improvements to the friend system, download pausing and resuming functionality, extended pre-installation options and improved UI.
Steam might be the dominant force in PC game distribution but that’s not stopped others like Origin and GOG Galaxy from staking their claim to the throne. The entire client will now be more resource-friendly while also becoming faster.
The GOG Galaxy Update is now available to users who are enrolled to receive preview updates, but will be rolling out to all users “very soon”.
