Golden Globes 2016: What did Ricky Gervais say to Mel Gibson?
“Mr. Robot” won the globe for best television drama series, while “Mozart in the Jungle” won best musical or comedy series.
Sylvester Stallone won best supporting actor for playing an aging Rocky in “Creed”.
Hosting the glittering gala considered Hollywood’s biggest party of the year was British comedian Ricky Gervais, who dished out his trademark raunchy humor, targeting Caitlyn Jenner, Mel Gibson and Jennifer Lawrence, among many others.
Following his speech, the actor and environmentalist received praise online for his tribute to Canada’s First Nations and indigenous people. If there were anywhere her closest competitor Saoirse Ronan (Brooklyn) could win, it would have been the Golden Globes.
And Brie Larson – as predicted – took home the Lead Actress, Drama award.
You know what you get when you hire Ricky Gervais as an awards show host. The film also took home the award for best movie drama. At this point, signs seem to suggest Winslet might win her second Oscar.
“A few years ago on this show I made a joke about Mel Gibson getting a bit drunk and saying a few unsavory things”, Gervais said about Gibson’s anti-Semitic statements made in 2009. She got it for her work in the film “Steve Jobs” in which she played the character role of a marketing executive named Janna Hoffman who was also a trusted adviser of Jobs.
“The Son of Saul”, a Hungarian about the Holocaust, won for Best Foreign Language film.
What if a network aired an awards show and you couldn’t hear half of it? The Globes have a reputation for heaping adoration on A-listers, but in this case the award was warranted.

The Danish Girl also missed out on each of the three prizes it was nominated for, including acting shots for Eddie Redmayne and Alicia Vikander, while Lily Tomlin couldn’t make good on her best comedy actress nomination for Grandma. Oscar nominees will be announced on January 15.
Taraji P. Henson won for her role as “Cookie” in Empire and handed out cookies as she made her way to the stage and declared: “Cookies for everyone tonight!”
Denzel Washington was the recipient of the Cecil B. DeMille Award given annually to an artist for outstanding contributions to the world of entertainment. Awards favorite Spotlight didn’t win anything.
