Golden Globes can’t keep its presenters straight
The nominees for the 2016 Golden Globes were unveiled on Thursday morning in Beverly Hills, California.
For best actor in a drama, the nominees are Cranston, Redmayne, Leonardo DiCaprio for The Revenant, Michael Fassbender for Steve Jobs and Will Smith for Concussion, a story about a pathologist who diagnosed degenerative brain disease in American football players.
Uzo Aduba and Regina King saw nominations for Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role in a Series, Miniseries, or Motion Picture Made for Television.
Best Supporting Actor puzzler: No one gets in for “Spotlight” but Idris Elba gets in for a good but not nomination-worthy turn in the unfortunately generic “Beasts of No Nation”. The Screen Actors Guild nominated her in the supporting category, but it looks like the Hollywood Foreign Press followed Cannes and gave her performance a best actress nod.

In an awards season that has so far seen honors spread around, Tom McCarthy’s “Spotlight” came into the Globe nominations as the Oscar favorite.
Netflix before had never lead a Golden Globes or Emmy nomination tally, EW noted, referencing this significant upset, adding that the service’s rise was signaled earlier this week when it also topped HBO among SAG nominations.
The Golden Globe winners will be announced at a televised ceremony in Los Angeles on January 10 (local time), hosted by comedian Ricky Gervais. Originally slated for release next year, its late jump into awards season was rewarded with four nominations, including best picture, comedy, and nods for Steve Carell and Christian Bale. The Globes have a musical/comedy category, yet mostly ignored films about musicians. They are: “The Big Short”, “Joy”, “Cinderella”, “The Martian”, “Spy”, “Trainwreck”. Yet somehow Pacino finds himself with a nod for best actor in a musical or comedy (there’s that extra category problem again!).
Rami Malek, 34, earned a best actor nod for playing a cybersecurity expert with social anxiety on cable network USA’s best drama series nominee “Mr. Robot”.

George Miller got nominated for best director for “Mad Max: Fury Road”, and “Room“, an adaptation of the novel by Emma Donoghue, helped star Brie Larson get a nomination for best actress in a drama.

Acting categories were also ripe with digital talent. Jennifer Lawrence for Joy, Joining her were Amy Schumer for Trainwreck and Melissa McCarthy for Spy. Bloom was nominated for a Golden Globe award for best actress in a TV comedy or musical series for her role on the show, on Thursday, Dec. 10, 2015. Vikander will also compete for best supporting actress for her performance as an artificial intelligence in the sci-fi indie “Ex Machina”.
