Golden Globes: Who will be the big winners?
Gervais made jokes about celebrities who were in the room, and some who were absent from the occasion, including Caitlyn Jenner, nominee Jeffrey Tambor, Jennifer Lawrence and previous hosts Tina Fey and Amy Poehler.
“I can’t be bothered to apologize after”.
Presenters include everyone’s boyfriend Channing Tatum, Bryce Dallas Howard a.k.a. The HFPA represents publications from over 55 countries, and they have organized the Golden Globes for over 70 years. Also presenting will be Mel Gibson, who is returning to the Hollywood spotlight after keeping a low profile for nearly a decade, following an explosive drunken-driving arrest and public custody dispute. By rights, Inarritu and Miller (“Mad Max”) should split this award for delivering the year’s two most aggressively thrilling films.
Still, the Globes could provide some clarity this year in what appears to be a wide-open Oscars race. Also running in that category are the dramedy “Joy“, space blockbuster “The Martian”, zany caper “Spy” and Amy Shumer’s breakout film “Trainwreck“.
The leads in “Doctor Zhivago“, “The Godfather” and “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest” all won the award for Best Actor (Drama), and all of the winningest films were directed by males.
And perhaps we should be a tad anxious just based on this apology the comedian, who will be hosting for the fourth time Sunday, issued on Twitter: “Because I can see the future, I’d like to apologise now for the things I said at next Week’s Golden Globes”.
Joining Blanchett and Mara in the best drama actress category are Brie Larson, for her portrayal of a woman held captive with her son in “Room”, Saoirse Ronan for “Brooklyn” and Alicia Vikander for “The Danish Girl”.
This year that unpredictability extends to the competition.
This is another classic movie that should have at least attracted a nomination for a Golden Globe; in fact, it won numerous awards from the Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts.
Alongside them in the best actor in a limited series or TV movie category is fellow Briton David Oyelowo for Nightingale.
Here’s what’s up for the TV portion of tonight’s Golden Globes.
The TV acting awards are all about the newbies. Somehow this film was snubbed by both the Golden Globes and the Oscars, but their loss is your gain if you watch this poignant documentary. But it’s the breakout TV stars of 2015 that bring the excitement: Rachel Bloom andRami Malek were all but unheard-of before Crazy Ex-Girlfriend and Mr. Robot, respectively, premiered a year ago. Perhaps it’s because these networks allow shows like “American Horror Story: Hotel“, “Fargo” and “Narcos” to display thematic – sometimes disturbing – elements while tackling complex themes.
Unlike the Oscars, which can feel stuffy and self-important, the Globes are a rowdier, more bleeptastic affair.
