Golden State becomes 1st team in National Basketball Association to begin season 16-0
For more on the Warriors, see the Inside the Warriors blog at. But it’s the Warriors’ world now and everyone else is welcomed to it.
The Warriors had equalled the previous best record start of 15-0 with Sunday’s win over over the Denver Nuggets.
They had shared the mark with the 1948-49 Washington Capitols and 1993-94 Houston Rockets.
“During the streak, we had some slippage”, Walton said.
“We’re trying to play at a high level every night”, he said on TNT. Steve Kerr might be sidelined from Warriors head coaching duties because of a back ailment but he’s still the best-placed man to decide this hypothetical match-up.
Kerr watched every one of the 16 victories from a distance while he recuperated from offseason surgeries on his back.
The catch in the Warriors’ case is that teams on the immediate docket will be lying in wait, hoping to be the streak-breaker. Walton breaks the schedule down by weeks, attempting to “have a good week”, rather than focus on what looms further down the line.
“All of that aside, we feel we haven’t probably received the credit we deserve after everything we achieved as a team last season, and the way things have panned out to begin 2015-16. But for the overall success, he couldn’t be happier”.
Golden State Warriors guard Stephen Curry (30) reacts after making a 3-point basket during the first half of an NBA basketball game against the Los Angeles Lakers in Oakland, Calif., Tuesday, Nov. 24, 2015.
Perhaps, the NBA Champions are lucky enough not to have yet played in this season, against opponents like Cleveland Cavaliers, Oklahoma City Thunder, San Antonio Spurs and Miami Heat, who look stronger than all the others this year. “Curry added nine assists, four rebounds and two steals”.
The Warriors were well on their way to doing so after taking a 30-11 lead in the first quarter, marking the fewest points they have allowed in any quarter this season. “A lot of players who’ve played in this league, a lot of great teams, and nobody has accomplished what this team has tonight….”
Recently asked whether those Lakers would beat these Warriors, Scott stayed true to his old team as expected.
“I never really liked that”, he said.
“I doubt it”, a smiling Stephen Curry said.
“It’s going to be a brutal road trip”, said Walton.
“I think Draymond shocked everybody besides himself”, said Richardson, Golden State’s first-round pick taken fifth overall in the 2001 draft. “I think it would be a fun matchup, but it’s not possible, so why are we even talking about it?”
The Warriors blistering start to the season however remains well short of the longest winning streak in history, which continues to be the 33-game run set by the Lakers in the 1971-72 season.
“We went by and congratulated each player”, Walton said.
One can understand that the Warriors are in front of a huge achievement, not only in the history of basketball, but also in sports generally and they must not miss the chance to take the best advantage of it, as this kind of opportunity emerges extremely rarely.
“But it won’t be a disappointing effort if we don’t get there because there are so many talented teams in this league”.
