In other words, she was suggesting that I’ll Be Gone in the Dark might prompt her readers to become detectives themselves. Overall, the Golden State Killer was said to be responsible for 12 murders and more than 50 rapes from the late 70s until the mid-80s.
But, Debbi had to wait until Wednesday morning’s press conference to actually learn the suspected killer’s identity.
“They got him”, read a text from a friend.
In the aftermath of Joseph James DeAngelo’s April 24th arrest, more details about the suspected Golden State Killer are coming to light. “I’ve cried today. I’m still shaking”.
Central California police say the former police officer accused in a series of killings and rapes is also the prime suspect in the 1975 death of a community college teacher.
But, for one resident of Lamesa, the identity of that suspect was something she had longed to know for nearly 37 years.
To some, scouring this publicly shared data to track down the so-called Golden State Killer seems like a worthwhile cause.
Joseph James DeAngelo, 72, was arrested this week for his role as the serial murderer.
DeAngelo was arrested this week in his residence in Citrus Heights, a suburb of the state’s capital, after authorities linked him to a string of rapes and murders throughout California relationship to the late 1970s. “This guy just had this anger that was just pouring out of him”. Law enforcement did acknowledge that more tips came in as a result of McNamara’s book.

The 17-year-old says she and DeAngelo’s granddaughter, who were 8 or 9 at the time, were supervised by his daughter. “Weirdly enough, I had been with her family the night before, doing a talk for her book, so that was very odd”. She received the call from the Ventura County District Attorney’s Office about 11 a.m. Wednesday. She has not seen the family in nine years, she said, because the girl’s mother prohibited their friendship after they cut each other’s hair.
“I knew that, if we ever caught the person, it would be done because we had the DNA and the DNA was consistent across the crimes”, Carole said. I was really wondering whether this was a dream. That being said, some of her hunches about his moves around the state are uncanny.
Skrine said McNamara continued writing about cold cases for years, primarily focusing on smaller cases that hadn’t gotten much attention. “I just feel very, very happy that her work wasn’t in vain. I really wish he had a disgusting name like Shower Scum”.
Asked whether it helped solve the case, Sacramento County Sheriff Scott Jones said the “answer is no”.
“You did it, Michelle”, Oswalt said in an Instagram video. “I’m in disbelief he was in Sacramento”. “She had a way making it so personal and talking about observations and families and relationships”.
“I’m still in disbelief”.
