Golden State Warriors extend National Basketball Association run with win over Pacers
After pasting the Indiana Pacers behind shooting guard Klay Thompson’s 39 points, the Golden State Warriors forge ahead with their 27-game winning streak and inch ever closer to the NBA’s all-time record.
After receiving a huge effort from Klay Thompson on Tuesday night in IN, the Warriors are now 23-0 and a clear favorite to win this season’s National Basketball Association title.
Pacers star forward Paul George did his utmost to keep the game competitive, but his 33 points, eight rebounds and six assists were not enough to stop the Warriors’ streak. He’s now made at least one 3 in 87 consecutive road games, tying the league record set by Rashard Lewis from 2007-09.
Fun fact: Stephen Curry already has the top two and three of the five best single-season efforts in 3-pointers made. “You can’t just focus in on one guy because we’ve got so many other guys who can put the ball in the basket and make plays”.
Thompson played his best game of the season Tuesday in Indiana.
For the season, Thompson is averaging 18.2 points per game, good for second on the team behind leading MVP-candidate Steph Curry. Curry finished with 29 points, 10 assists and seven rebounds.
Golden State has won four straight in the series, with Thompson finishing with 31 points in a 114-111 home victory January 25 and Stephen Curry scoring 37 in a 106-101 win at Boston on March 1.
It was just a matter of time before Thompson got loose and he did so without mercy against the Pacers. They allowed a franchise-worst 80 points in the first half at the Lakers in November 1978.
The Boston Celtics may only have to face off against half of Golden State’s Splash Brothers on Friday.
James, who this week clinched a lucrative lifetime sponsorship deal with Nike which could be worth as much as $500 million (458 million euros), had missed the Cavs’ defeat to Miami on Saturday.
Kevin Love added 18 points for the Cavaliers, who benefited from a second-half lineup adjustment by coach David Blatt and ended a three-game losing skid. Their winning streak including the final couple of games last season has now reached 27. Howard finished with 10 points and nine rebounds.
