Golden State Warriors Make NBA History With Win Over Los Angeles Lakers
No deficit is too big to overcome – as they proved by erasing a 23-point lead by the Clippers in Los Angeles last week to claim win No. 13 – thanks to the insane shooting of Stephen Curry and Co., as the Warriors are seemingly capable of scoring 15 points in the blink of an eye. The reigning National Basketball Association champions improved to 16-0 Tuesday night by routing the Los Angeles Lakers 111-77.
Fans hold up signs signaling the Golden State Warriors historic start during the game against the Los Angeles Lakers, in Oakland on Tuesday, November 24, 2015.
The Lakers (2-12), a storied franchise that is in full rebuilding mode, was led by starting power forward Julius Randle and reserves Lou Williams and Larry Nance, Jr., each of whom scored 10 points.
Kobe Bryant was limited to four points on 1-for-14 shooting to match the worst-shooting performance of his career in a game when he had at least one basket. “We got to continue to work and continue to get better”.
“It feels great, especially the way we did it. During the streak, we had some slippage and had some games that we didn’t play like ourselves”.
Golden State is embarking on a soft stretch of their schedule, though a seven game road trip is a part of it, they face Phoenix, Sacramento, Utah, Charlotte, Milwaukee, Boston and Brooklyn, with IN and Toronto mixed IN.
In a similar but not exactly the same situation, LeBron James made a point this week that I’ve been trying to hammer home for some time and that’s that we should appreciate greatness for greatness and not worry about who’s better or who would have been better or who would have dominated the other guy. Curry averaged 30.8 points, six assists, 5.5 rebounds and three steals in those four games.
Toward the end of the game, Brandon Rush hit a 3-pointer to give the Warriors their largest lead at 41 points and Leandro Barbosa added a rare dunk. Since then, they have not disappointed, reeling off another five wins against some stiff competition.
The Warriors logged 10 of their 32 assists in the first quarter. The rookie was the aggressor in the early going and, even though his line of eight points, five rebounds, and two assists isn’t overwhelming, he was the only Laker who look interested in being in ORACLE. According to the Elias Sports Bureau, they are the second team to sink more threes than the opposition in each of its first 16 games. It’s special. There’s a lot of great players in this league and a lot of great teams – nobody’s accomplished what this team has tonight.
“I got faith in Kobe he’ll be OK”, Bryant said.
Jason Richardson was honored during the break between the first and second quarters. The 20-year veteran took just two attempts in the paint and went 1-of-7 on 3-point tries.
The Hawks put the game out of reach with an 18-3 run that made it 100-80 with 6:20 remaining on Teague’s three-point play.
“That’s an unique atmosphere to be involved in and that’s what they have here”, Scott said.
“The 72-win thing is far, far away, and we shouldn’t be spending any time thinking about that”, Walton said.
