Golden State Warriors move to 10-0 with win over Minnesota Timberwolves
Golden State Warriors’ Stephen Curry, left, and Minnesota Timberwolves Kevin Garnett race for a loose ball during the first quarter of an NBA basketball game, Thursday, November 12, 2015, in Minneapolis.
Prior to Wednesday’s matchup against the Memphis Grizzlies, Curry was averaging 32.4 points, 5.9 assists, 5.4 rebounds and 2.4 steals for reigning champions the Warriors, who are 8-0 so far.
#Warriors remain ideal at 10-0. Not only do the Warriors have the best team in the league but they run a few of the best business.
Curry finished with 46 points as he shot 15-of-25 from the field, 8-of-13 from beyond the arc and 8-of-8 from the line.
Andrew Wiggins scored 19 points and five assists and Karl-Anthony Towns, posting his sixth double-double in the last eight games, collected 17 points and 11 rebounds to lead the way for the Timberwolves in the defeat at Target Center.
Minnesota played without point guard Ricky Rubio, who was out due to an injury (strained left hamstring). Golden State finished the game by draining a total of 18 three-point shots and shooting at a high percentage at 47.3%.
And he can shoot from anywhere on the court, so the defense can’t ease up and they can’t sit back, even from deep. It’s a long season and it’s only November, but all the numbers from last season and this one say it’s not just a good month for Curry or the Warriors. According to @Twolves_PR, no other player since 1985-86 has averaged 16+ points and 10+ rebounds in their first eight career games.
Wiggins returned after missing Tuesday’s loss against Charlotte with a sore right knee to lead seven players in double figures with 19 points. In an interview, Curry told ESPN, “This is where the whole story started and I know how much the Davidson alumni and community supports me, so this is very special”.
The Wolves continued their strong play at the start of the fourth quarter, getting within 102-97 on a three-point play by Gorgui Deng – Minnesota did most of its damage with Curry on the bench. However, it is evident that the Warriors mean business, and with Draymond Green and Klay Thompson continuing to play crucial roles, along with the likes of Festus Ezeli stepping up and making more of a contribution, this unit has the ideal balance and attitude.
“Obviously we haven’t won the championship or anything off of that, but it definitely is a good start to the season”, Curry said of eclipsing the 9-0 start the Philadelphia Warriors had in 1960.
Timberwolves immediately responded with a 14-0 run and later cut the Warriors’ lead to five points. Minnesota beat Denver, Atlanta and Chicago on the road – all playoff teams last season.
“He’s just always in attack mode”, Warriors interim coach Luke Walton said.
“They’re undefeated. We’ve watched [Stephen Curry] and I think everyone’s watched him get out to those starts and it’s something we’ve talked about – it’s easier said than done”.
Gallinari had 25 points to lead the Nuggets, and Faried finished with 19.
“It wasn’t just me”. “To get down a deficit like we did, to roar back and be so close…”
As Dallas pulled away in the final minute, the crowd chanted a derogatory phrase at Jordan, who had nine points and 11 rebounds with a minus-23 scoring margin while he was in the game.
