Golden State Warriors on the path to the history record
Who’s counting? The Golden State Warriors certainly are.
At this point, Golden State holds a huge 7-game lead in the Pacific Division, with Phoenix, not the Clippers, now holding second place.
“It’s special”, Warriors’ guard Steph Curry said after the win in Denver. The Warriors, led by the Splash Brothers, are known for their deep threat, but defending other teams from shooting threes hasn’t been as easy.
The Warriors defeated the Cleveland Cavaliers last season to take the National Basketball Association title and this season are being compared to arguably the best team in the league’s history, Michael Jordan’s 1995-96 Chicago Bulls.
As old pros debate they would have done in the old days, the Golden State Warriors right now beat all comers. As was the case for most of the last season, the bench carried the load for the entirety of the fourth quarter as Curry checked out of the game after playing just 28 minutes. He had 19 points, the first time this season he didn’t reach 20.
But the Warriors responded immediately with an 8-0 run as Thompson scored five straight points and assisted on Barnes’ 3-pointer.
“Whether or not we get it, it really doesn’t affect our ultimate goal of trying to win a championship”, said interim coach Luke Walton, who picked up a technical in the third quarter.
Victory in Tuesday’s match against the Los Angeles Lakers in front of their own fans at Oakland’s Oracle Arena will give the defending champions the record outright.
NY – Brook Lopez had 23 points and 10 rebounds, Jarrett Jack scored 13 of his 22 points in the fourth quarter and Brooklyn earned a split of the teams’ home-and-home series. It didn’t help the Nuggets that leading rebounder Kenneth Faried missed the game with a sprained ankle.
Kobe Bryant scored 18 points in the game.
The Warriors are undefeated and will continue to display their greatness. This begs to ask the question, are the Warriors better than past year? The Warriors will likely lose sometime in that lengthy road stretch, but they may be able to lengthen this record quite a bit beforehand.
Walton said he was glad to limit Curry’s minutes. He played just 28, one more than his fewest this season, and he got some valuable rest. “And all we’re doing is following his leadership”.
The Warriors are on the cusp of history without head coach Steve Kerr, who is recovering from two off-season back surgeries.
