Golden State Warriors pull away from Brooklyn Nets, improve to 22-0
There was flash and dash and 3-point magic, fake left, go right, swish, and it turned a two-point Nets lead into an 87-80 advantage for the Warriors who went onto a 114-98 victory to start the season with a record-breaking 22 straight wins.
Dirk Nowitzki had 19 points for Dallas, which took the lead early in the third quarter and pulled away in the fourth.
Golden State Warriors guard Klay Thompson (11) drives past Brooklyn Nets guard Markel Brown (22) in the first half of an NBA basketball game, Sunday, Dec. 6, 2015, in NY. Stephen Curry’s one-handed runner off the glass in transition evened the score at 76 with 2:10 left in the third.
Coming off consecutive 40-point games, Curry was having a relatively quiet night before helping the Warriors regain control.
“You see glimpses, it’s just we got to keep going”, Lopez said after the game.
“That’s what great players can do”.
Jack said of how to characterize this loss with the way the Warriors have played, “I mean, they’re a tough team”.
Is Patterson back? While Patman is still struggling with his shot as he went 0-2 from 3, and 2-5 overall from the field, he still had an impact on the game. While it seems like it could go on like this forever, there will surely come a night where Curry can’t find the spark, or Draymond Green is in foul trouble, or some other mundane detail that gets left unattended, and leaves the Warriors with their first loss.
Curry was a touch better, and for him it was just another night. “When he needs to, he can, and when he doesn’t need to, he takes a back seat to those other guys”.
Thompson added 26 points for the Warriors, while Green had 16 points and nine rebounds. Now they just trail the 2012 Miami Heat with 27 and 1971-72 Lakers with 33 for the longest in season win streaks.
Down 75-70 with 3:10 left in the third, the Warriors were soon ahead 96-85 early in the fourth. “We’re never out of a game, and we’re always one little run away from putting a game away”. The Warriors, 22-0 this season, next play IN on Tuesday IN the fifth game of a seven-game road trip.
Nets forward Thaddeus Young registered a double-double, which consisted of 25 points and 14 rebounds.
“I am sure that we pointed that out to our guys in the film session, that this team definitely believes they can beat us”, Warriors interim coach Luke Walton said.
But with a season-best 38 points on 78 percent shooting in the second period, the Nets trimmed it to 57-54 at halftime, then opened a five-point lead late in the third.
SAN ANTONIO – Forward LaMarcus Aldridge scored 17 points as San Antonio improved to 11-0 at home.
Warriors: C Andrew Bogut was back in the starting lineup after missing Saturday’s victory at Toronto with back spasms…. “Plus, he has a great team”, Nets coach Lionel Hollins said”.
Nets owner Mikhail Prokhorov was in attendance, but he declined to comment on the state of his team after the game, saying, “Later, maybe”. The Nets’ last longer one was seven games in February and March 2011…. Bojan Bogdanovic started in his place. Those two players finished with 17 points each for the Hornets, who played their first road game in 18 days. We were denied that matchup in the playoffs last season, and who knows, maybe we’ll see a team solve this enigma, of a team people are still rubbing their eyes in disbelief when they see playing and look at their record.
