Golden State Warriors Shatter NBA Record
The Los Angeles Lakers were involved in a historically significant game Tuesday night, although not because of anything to do with them.
Golden State Warriors guard Klay Thompson passes around Los Angeles Lakers guard Kobe Bryant, during their game in Oakland on Tuesday, November 24, 2015. They never really had a chance to beat the Warriors from Jump Street, but the effort they put forth to try and shock the world was humiliatingly bad.
Golden State Warriors continue to impress and according to what the other teams have shown until now in the NBA, Stephen Curry’s side 16-0 record start seems too small for what is likely to come. Previously, the 1993-94 Houston Rockets held the record at 15-0.
“We went by and congratulated each player. We’ve taken care of every objective so far”. It was reported Tuesday that Walton’s Mercedes Benz was stolen from in front of his house last week. “We also reminded them that it’s November and there will be a lot more work to do”.
But there was one last night in Atlanta that I can entirely get behind, for reasons that go far beyond sports.
“It’s tough to watch him struggle like he did tonight”, Scott said. “But for the overall success, he couldn’t be happier”.
Curry, recipient of last year’s NBA Most Valuable Player Award, led the Warriors’ attack during his 30 minutes of action, while do-it-all forward Draymond Green added 18 points and Brazilian reserve guard Leandro Barbosa chipped in with 13. In reality, if the Warriors perform to the best of their ability, there is no reason why they can’t come away with wins over the Phoenix Suns, Sacramento Kings, Utah Jazz and Charlotte Hornets in their next four games. He had numerous open looks at the basket but sank only 1 of 14 field goal attempts.
It was in the context of James joining Oscar Robertson as the only two players in the all-time top 25 in points and assists and the point James made is quite relevant and important.
It’s been one historic night after another for the Warriors this season.
They’ve outscored opponents by 250 points overall – the best point differential through 16 games since the 1996-97 Bulls, who went 15-1 over that span (with a +257 differential) a year after setting the record with 72 regular-season wins.
The Lakers shot only 24 percent (5 of 21) in the field and were guilty of four turnovers in period.
When Coach Byron Scott was asked about the prospect of facing the Warriors earlier this week, he could only laugh.
The Warriors were monstrous 17-point favorites for this matchup with the Lakers, but the unbeaten defending champs managed to cover. The East’s two most well-regarded teams, the Cleveland Cavaliers and the Atlanta Hawks, haven’t played Golden State yet either.
Only three teams have won more than 20 National Basketball Association games in a row.
“I got faith in Kobe he’ll be OK”, Bryant said.
“I doubt it”, a smiling Stephen Curry said. What did you guys think I would say?
“If you would have told me, ‘If we wouldn’t have Steve the first 16 games, what would your record be?’ [Undefeated] was one of the choices that would have got zero votes”, Myers said. “We will not be coaching this season to chase that record”.
