Golden State Warriors Still Undefeated
But just putting themselves in position has been a feat to be very proud of for the Warriors.
The Warriors’ win resulted from a 17-5 finish after point guard Stephen Curry’s third three-pointer broke the game’s 17th tie and put Golden State up for good at 92-89 with 5:26 to go. “But now that we’re within striking distance, we can answer that question – it’s real, and we want to get there”.
With the Warriors up 10, and 40 seconds left, there was no question that the Warriors streak was still alive, tying the 1957-58 Celtics for 14 straight to open a season after being crowned league champs.
“Our inability to guard the 3-point line is a joke”, said Malone, whose team is second-to-last in the National Basketball Association with a 38.8 opposing 3-point percentage.
Before we dismiss the sub-.500 cupcakes, it should be noted the Warriors’ biggest scare before Thursday came at home against the moribund Nets – a 107-99 victory in overtime.
Fourteen wins and counting, and now, finally, the Warriors are talking about the streak, too. “It would be a huge accomplishment, because obviously doing something that hasn’t been done in the history of the league is special, but you never know if this opportunity will come back again”. It was the Warriors’ second win of the season over the Clippers, after a 112-108 triumph on November 4.
The next game is Sunday at Denver.
Golden State is off to a 13-0 start overall with an 8-5 mark against the spread. Paul Pierce answered, but the Clippers couldn’t keep up with the Warriors when they proceeded to make six of their next seven shots, with five of the six coming from 3-point range.
Interim coach Luke Walton planned to remind his players of that loss – not that they necessarily needed it.
“Every single night when it comes down to a close game and it’s time to win – no matter how we played – our guys step up”, Walton said. They love the moment. The Clippers later admitted to picking their poison by funneling the ball to Iguodala, and he made them pay. “(Andre) Iguodala, whoever it might be that night, they do a good job getting them going”. On this night, it was Barnes instead of Curry delivering the final heroics. He made just 5 of 14 shots and scored 19 points in the Warriors’ 112-102 win on December 6, 2014, in a game in which Draymond Green scored 31 to lead the victory.
Golden State has won 25 consecutive regular-season home games since that loss, and Chicago still isn’t sure if it will have Derrick Rose available when it tries to win again in Oakland on Friday night.
“It’s incredible”, center Festus Ezeli said.
The Bulls are a strong enough defensive team to pose problems to Golden State, and expect Butler to give Curry some problems.
“It’s incredible, that’s history right there”, he said. One more victory would tie them for the greatest start to a season in league history. “That’s bigger than any of us here”.
