Gomez joins Besiktas on loan after injury-hit Fiorentina spell
“Besiktas announce that [on] Thursday the club reached an agreement with Fiorentina for the loan of Mario Garcia Gomez”, the club said.
The player arrives on loan, but the contract includes an option to make the deal permanent as stated on the club’s official website.
Gomes started his professional career at Bundesliga outfit Stuttgart where he excelled before moving onto German giants Bayern Munich.
The former Bayern Munich ahead joined Serie A aspect Fiorentina two years in the past, but a recurring knee damage restricted him to simply 47 matches with La Viola, in which he scored 14 objectives.
“Talks over the transfer of Mario Gomez have been opened with the player and his club”, Besiktas said in a short statement.
His compatriot Lukas Podolski has joined reigning champions Galatasaray while Dutchman Robin van Persie and Portugal’s Nani both signed for 19-time winners Fenerbahce from Manchester United.
“My scoring rate may have fallen but I’ve been unlucky with injuries”.
Mario Gomez explained he is leaving Fiorentina for Besiktas “to get back into the Germany side for Euro 2016”.
