Goodell confirms Nov. 21 for Texans-Raiders game in Mexico
It was reported yesterday that the National Football League was considering Mexico City for a game in 2016, and that the Texans and Raiders would likely get the call, but there was no hard date at that time. That was in 2005.
The NFL announced Friday that the Raiders will host the Houston Texans for a Monday Night Football game November 21 in Mexico City’s Estadio Azteca.
“The Raiders are truly a global brand”, owner Mark Davis said. ‘We have a tremendous, passionate fan base in Mexico and we know the atmosphere on game day will be outstanding’.
“I believe that the league should pursue a policy where if there are two personal fouls in a game, there’s an automatic ejection of the player”, Goodell said. “I believe he’s going to do whatever he can”. “We should take that out of the hands of the officials at that point”.
“We just weren’t able to make it happen from a home team perspective – enough teams willing to give up that we could actually have five games”.
San Antonio, Sacramento, Portland, Sacramento, Santa Clara, San Jose, San Diego, St. Louis, Los Angeles, and Las Vegas have all been potential landing sites for the Raiders over the past five years.
The Chargers will play the 2016 season in San Diego, but still have the option of joining the Rams in Los Angeles for the long term if a new stadium agreement can not be agreed upon. After that, the Raiders would be next in line. “Our number one issue here is to prevent these things from happening”.
Goodell said he’s willing to support Johnson in the future Johnson no matter what he decides, too. “I want them to experience the game of football because the game of football will teach you values”. As the game wore on most offensive plays barely featured tackling or any defense resembling a normal game. As far as a franchise, let’s continue to grow, to see that excitement, enthusiasm, passion and support continue to develop. I think fans have appreciated that. He said the NFL’s goal is to “get better”.
“I’m not going to speculate what we’re going to do depending on the outcome”, Goodell said.
“I had raised this issue three or four years ago”, Goodell said.
The commissioner, speaking in San Francisco ahead of Sunday’s Super Bowl, said the NFL had made “great progress” around concussion, despite a flurry of recent research that underlines the link between football and long-term health problems. “I see great athletes playing this game and loving to play this game. I believe it can be”, he said.
Are you ready for a Pro Bowl in Australia? “If it’s not quality, if it’s not real competition that we can be proud of, we have to do something different”.
Manning and the Broncos face the Carolina Panthers in Super Bowl 50 tomorrow.
Hina Shah, director of the Women’s Employment Rights Clinic in San Francisco, said: “Once the cheerleaders understand what their rights are, they become empowered to do something about it”. Goodell said the Rams are now “back home”.
