Goodell doesn’t agree with Kaepernick’s actions
“I wasn’t expecting my jersey sales to jump to number one because of [my protest], but it shows the people’s belief that we can achieve justice and equality for ALL!” Kaepernick made a public thank you on his Instagram account, thanking everyone that supports his protest of the national anthem, and vowed to donate all the proceeds he receives “back into the communities”. Tortorella, who will coach the United States at the upcoming World Cup of Hockey, told ESPN: “If any of my players sit on the bench for the national anthem, they will sit there the rest of the game”.
The flag and anthem have so much meaning for many men and women in uniform and others who have defended the country that the style of Kaepernick’s protest may make it hard for them to “hear what his deeper concerns are”, Obama said. He said then that he would not “stand up to show pride in a flag for a country that oppresses black people and people of color”. It was something small that I could do and something that I plan to keep doing in the future and hopefully spark some meaningful conversation around it. And in doing so, he revealed that, while he respects Kaepernick’s right to protest by sitting or kneeling during The Star-Spangled Banner, he doesn’t necessarily agree with his decision to do it.
Kaepernick caused a stir last month when he announced he would not stand during the national anthem in order to protest what he views as racist government policies and police brutality against minorities.
“I’ve never watched a football game but I’ve just bought a Colin Kaepernick jersey that I will proudly wear”, tweeted Twitter user Sean on Friday. President Barack Obama recently commented that the 49ers quarterback was exercising his right of expression.
With a chance to take a stance on Colin Kaepernick’s polarizing protest, Roger Goodell basically punted. Now, however, the man with the $114 million contract is the 49ers backup quarterback after losing the job to Blaine Gabbert, who is basically a scrub.
It’s not the first time that racial tension in sports have created controversy with police who provide security at games.
But she’s also a member of Team Colin Kaepernick.
