Google acquires Fly Labs, a photo and video editing startup
But you’re about to hear more about Fly Labs or at least its products’ features since it has just been acquired by Google.
To that end, the search engine giant has announced acquisition of Fly Labs.
Fly Labs says it has had the goal of helping people “make the most of their photos and videos”, doing so with editing apps that give users creative control over their personal media. Fly Labs will be focusing on integrating its team within the Google Photos one and folding its technologies into Google Photos. And finally Crop lets you “cure” vertical videos by choosing the appropriate landscape frame at any given point. It’s likely that Fly Labs will help fill that gap. In the last 18 months, our video editing apps have been downloaded more than 3 million times in over 150 different countries. Thanks to the Google acquisition, all of Fly Labs’ apps and their in-app purchases are now free, and they’ll stay that way for the next 3 months. Not exactly. Instead, Google said it plans on adding Fly Labs’ technology to Google Photos, improving an already awesome service.
After that, Fly Labs will no longer be submitting updates to the apps, and the apps will be removed from the store.
Interestingly enough, the founders of the app talked to iDigitalTimes past year, saying that it wasn’t expected that an Android version of its app would ever be available, and that iPhone users appreciated great design more than Android users. iDigital Times continued on to say that Tim Novikoff, the founder of the app, didn’t see the app ever venturing into Google territory.
We’d like to thank our users, our beta testers, our investors, our friends, our families, and everybody who helped us get this far.
