Google Arts & Culture app updated with Cardboard support
This website is what Google says is the home for hosting the world’s cultural treasures online. Google Arts & Culture offers users online access to thousands of works of art from the world’s museum collections. The Google Arts & Culture app has also been redesigned along with the website. The app is aimed at offering the tools to explore art and culture from museums in multiple countries.
Similar to how Google Photos works, you can search for anything – like “shoes” or “all things gold“, notes Google in its announcement of the new release. You can also click on different colors in a bar on the top when viewing an individual artist’s work, in order to filter by color.
The tours in the new Arts & Culture app are not entirely different.
The app’s interface is also not particularly intuitive even with the new update, and it can be hard to navigate the sheer number of images and locations available.
Google is launching a brand new Android and iOS app this week, and it features some pretty intriguing support for 360 degree video.
Most of us are probably not fortunate enough to be able to jet around the world to visit ancient Greek temples and famous art galleries, but thanks to Google Cardboard, you can now tour some of the world’s most iconic landmarks without fighting the crowds. You can even treat yourself to first-class seats of special performances like the one seen in the trailer above.
Just pull up the app, point your phone’s camera to a painting on display and find all the information you want to know about the artwork.
