Google building €150M Data Centre in West Dublin
The move will create 400 jobs during the construction phase of the project with the first phase due to be completed later this year.
Alongside that, the company completed the purchase of 31 acres adjacent to these facilities, which could mean further expansion if the company requires it.
Internet search engine Google have begun construction on their €150 million data centre in West Dublin this morning.
The new two storey data centre is being built alongside Google’s existing data centre which opened in 2012.
“We have now started construction on our second data centre and we have been working with the local community as the building gets underway”.
Ireland’s naturally cool climate makes it an ideal location for data centres.
Google’s Ireland office employs over 5,000 people and acts as its headquarters for Europe, the Middle East and Africa.
Following announcements by Apple and Facebook earlier this year, Google has become the latest tech company to take advantage of that benefit.
Head of Google in Ireland Ronan Harris said the new centre would help power the full range of Google services, including Gmail, Maps and YouTube.
