Google Calendar to auto-create reminders from Gmail
Google has added several new features to Google Classroom, the company’s platform for creating, sharing and grading assignments, and has other features set to roll out in the coming weeks.
Now, Google is adding tools to make the service more collaborative between students and teachers, and provide additional management and organization tools to teachers.
Teachers can now posts questions to their classes and students can respond to them.
Michael Fricano II, a teacher from Iolani School in Honolulu, and Heather Breedlove, a Technology Integration Coordinator from Flagstaff Unified School District in Arizona, noted in the blog post that the new features enables “focused conversation” between the students and the teachers. According to reports, teaching staff can now post queries to their class and allow their students to begin a discussion on particular topics. Classroom will automatically create a calendar for each class and automatically add any assignment due dates. Until now there wasn’t much of a difference between the table top calendar and the one in your smartphone and desktop, as you had to manually enter data into it.
Posts from previous lesson can now be reused in new lessons.
Assignments can now be given without due dates.
While this feature is already released for users of Gmail, the latest update further broaden its support for Google App users.
“For example, you could post a video and ask students to answer a question about it, or post an article and ask them to write a paragraph in response”, Google engineer Will Phan explains. This is good news considering that most college students own a laptop and use it to send and receive their term papers.
