Google Doodle Celebrates India’s Milkman Verghese Kurien’s 94th Birth Anniversary
Google, on Thursday, honoured “Father of white revolution” Verghese Kurien, by making a doodle of him, on his 94th birth anniversary.
Dubbed as the “Milkman of India”, Kurien with his “Operation Flood”, the world’s largest agricultural development programme, reshaped the domestic consumption pattern in India.
Latest google doodle remembering Milkman of India, Verghese Kurien on his 94th birth anniversary. As the founding chairman of the Gujarat Co-operative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF), Kurien was chargeable for the creation and success of the Amul model of dairy merchandise.
Born on November 26, 1921 in Kozhikode, Kerala, Kurien graduated from Loyola College in 1940 and went on to complete his engineering from Guindy College of Engineering, Chennai. But it was after a quick stint at TISCO that he obtained a authorities of India scholarship to review dairy engineering.
Not just Amul, Verghese Kurien, who was usually referred to as the Milkman of India had successfully set up 30 institutions of excellence like AMUL, GCMMF, IRMA, NDDB to name a few, which are now owned and controlled by farmers and run by professionals.
An year later, Kurien was assigned as the Government Creamery in Anand, Gujarat as a part of his bond commitment. The number of member societies has now increased to 16,100, with 3.2 million members pouring milk every day- twice a day.
Verghese Kurien was awarded with India’s Padma Vibhushan, the World Food Prize, Magsaysay Award, Carnegie Watler World Peace Prize, Internation Person of the Year from U.S. and other recognitions.
He died on September 9, 2012 in Nadiad, Gujarat at the age of 90.
