Google announced the new feature today
Google Drive rolls out tools to stop others from getting shared files. Now users can disable a recipient’s ability to “download, print, and copy” a content, sent to them.
Once you disable those features, documents, spreadsheets and presentations will notify you that export options have been disabled in the File menu.
On the other hand, The Next Web said that while this makes it hard for people to copy sensitive information, there are still ways to get around it.
Google has made some new updates to to Google Drive, which are a benefit to the user. Developers can also implement the functionality in their apps with an API.
IRM is only available to file owners, meaning if a file has been shared with you via Drive, you {cannot | can’t} enable the feature if you share the same file with others. The checkbox can be found by clicking “Advanced” under the sharing dialogue for a file.
It should be noted, that nothing prevents users from taking a screenshot of your document or even reproducing it manually.
