Google Gives Apps a “Star Wars” Makeover
For example, Google Maps will show iconic Star Wars vehicles marking your location, Gmail gets a Star Wars theme and wallpaper, and if you visit Google Play, you’ll find an updated version of Disney’s Star Wars app.
It seems light years since JJ Abrams’s announcement last month that the third full trailer would be the last we’d see of Star Wars: The Force Awakens until its official release on December 17. Picking either side will essentially give your entire Google account and corresponding apps a makeover in accordance to whichever side you choose, so like Google states in the promo video above, choose carefully!
Google wants you to choose a side. Even though you’re cautioned to choose wisely, you’re not bound to your choice – you can switch sides at any time. After logging in with a Gmail account, fans are given the option to #ChooseYourSide, and given the option of whether to be part of the light or dark side of the Force.
Once you’ve signed up, you’ll get a customised image skin for your Google profile photo and the opportunity to share your decision with the world via social media. Then watch as Android Wear, Google Calendar (scroll to December), Chromecast, Inbox, Google Translate, and Waze awaken the Force within you. A few of the changes include a TIE fighter or X-wing showing your location in Google Maps and red or blue lightsabers replacing progress and volume bars in YouTube. We’ve got more coming between now and opening night – the Millennium Falcon in all its (virtual) glory included, so stay tuned.

We are now 24 days away from Star Wars: The Force Awakens, and Google is jumping in on all the craze.
“The feeling we wanted was from the first trilogy, which was, it’s fun, it’s delightful, it moves like a son of a bitch, and you don’t question too much”, Kasdan told THR.
