Google Glass 2 patent reveals new design
The same source mentions that a patent has been filed this week with the US Patent and Trademark Office, revealing an image with a device utilizing the shape of the wearer’s head to their advantage, instead of relying on the nose, like the first model does.
Despite Google’s claims that Google Glass is not dead, we’ve heard little about its future plans for the headset since it returned to the drawing board.
Glass is expected to be relaunched as a business-focused device and is now going under the name of Project Aura.
A Google patent granted this week now shows two different approaches to a flexible version of the wearable (see below for the second one), worn over only one ear, and with the option of a display viewable by both eyes … Whether this patent describes any of those prototypes is unclear. The band can also double as a touch-based input surface.
The Google Glass 2 version will be configurable by the wearers, to fit the device around their face in such a way that the device’s display is positioned about one of the eyes.
So, what’s so special about Google Glass 2?
Wanting to bring something totally new to the public, Google chose to abandon the glassy design for their device and go with something on the line of a monocle.
I can see the use case for Google Glass in certain industries.
Over time, the Glass 2 project has attracted quite a lot of attention from the public.
No date or timeframe has been released from Google.
