Google Glass plans to move beyond ‘glass’, project underway
After the debacle of Google glass, Google has been reportedly again trying to revive its efforts into virtual and augmented reality with Project Aura.
However, what’s interesting about this report is that Google is reportedly working on a new “sport” version of Google Glass that’s less intrusive and doesn’t have a screen on the front of your face.
The division of Google responsible for wearable tech is experimenting with new designs, including one without a screen. Project Aura, the division behind Google Glass, is said to be working on at least three new wearables prototypes, which function with and without the use of a visual display.
The new models that are reportedly in development now would work by using bone conduction technology just like the Explorer Edition of Glass, but without a display they would instead relay content information to users through audio.
Sources speaking to the publication say the glass-less Google Glass will be geared towards “sports” users, and will exclusively work on an audio basis.
Glass in all likelihood has been shelved permanently, but Google seems set to find other ways to enter the wearables market.
As for the Enterprise Edition that Lessin mentions in her report, I first told you across several exclusive reports (later corroborated by The Wall Street Journal) that Google’s next move for Google Glass is into the enterprise.
