Google Home will launch in the United Kingdom before June
It’s even coming to non-Amazon devices like Motorola smartphones and LG refrigerators. The developers are not done yet.
The highly popular Amazon voice system is tipped to be launched in Australia shortly.
But Alexa can now be used to control a wider range of smart home devices, has more third-party apps – known as “skills” – and makes it possible to buy goods from Amazon’s shopping service.
This type of feature for Alexa is known as Voice ID, and the report reveals that it has been in internal development since 2015. This would involve having Alexa compare the voice of the person giving commands with a pre-recorded voice sample. It remained on the Alexa roadmap as recently as late last summer, but it’s unclear when or if the feature will launch.

Amazon, however, has rejected fears over data it collects, saying it is necessary for Alexa to function and improve. Till date, none of the intelligent assistants can identify or differentiate multiple voices.
There’s a war raging between Google and Amazon over what could be the next major computing platform: voice-controlled AI assistants.
The Amazon Echo now has 10,000 “skills”, but still doesn’t recognize specific voices. Since its dispatch in 2014, Amazon and outsider engineers have been quickly growing what the smart speaker can do. At present, Home can’t distinguish between different voices yet. Alexa already has multiple verification measures such as account and PIN input for when it makes a purchase. You will need the Parent Voice to make a credit card for online shopping.
The NPR One app along with this new way to experience public radio is now available, to access it just say, “Alexa, enable NPR One”, or search for NPR One in the Alexa app’s skill store. Also, the Amazon Echo has been available in the United Kingdom since September. A number of factors could delay or the feature, including privacy concerns, which have become a greater issue for the company.
