Google hopes to reboot its low-priced Android phone program
The exploration firm has included that Google in spite of propelling its Android One gadgets in different markets including Philippines, Indonesia, and Turkey among others didn’t see awesome interest. As a result, OEMs don’t advertise the devices (though Google does) and don’t care too much about selling them.
By low-priced phones we mean sub $100 phones.
ZD Net noted that developers rated the new discovery as critical because the vulnerability targets the core part of the Android software.
The Wall Street Journal has reported that Google has continued its partnership with Indian smartphone vendor Lava worldwide to launch the new Android One handset in the country. The publication’s sources say that the “revamped initiative gives device makers more freedom to choose the components and features that go into the phones and how much they cost”.
Handset manufacturers can even opt for buying hardware from their own distributors.
We’ll have to see how this affects the performance and updatability of devices in the program, but it doesn’t sound good.
Android One is expected to relaunch in “the coming months”, according to the report, and it will likely happen again in India through Lava global.
Android One devices are making a comeback in India, and Google is hoping more phone manufacturers sign on. But, a few of the initial partners, including Micromax and Spice, are no longer in development to produce Android One smartphones. More choices should get more Android One devices in people’s hands, and Google back on track to reaching the “next five billion”.
So, it all ends up sounding like Google is essentially killing everything that made the Android One program interesting in the first place.
As of now, Google is planning to release at least a single new Android One smartphone with Lava, but it’s suspected that other models will be released afterwards once the company is able to get more manufacturing partners. In fact, it just released its November security update, and it’s an important one.
