Google is bringing its 360-degree films to the iPhone
Google’s Spotlight, a light-hearted entertainment cum storytelling app which use 360 degree 2D/3D animated videos for the objective, has now hit iOS devices, nearly 2 years after it was available for Android.
Once Google sold Motorola, it kept ATAP while jettisoning the rest of the hardware, and we didn’t hear much about Spotlight Stories until this past Google I/O, when it was opened up to the rest of the Android ecosystem.
This means that you can hold up your handset or tablet, and move it around full 360-degrees to view the films from any angle. Videos also offer sound sphere audio and sensor fusion technology.
The app was originally developed for Motorola users before Google purchased Motorola back in 2011. iOS users that like short animated films can now get the app for their iPhone or iPad. This app combines its 2D and 3D animation with 360 degree video effects to create an wonderful surrounding movie watching experience.
Spotlight Stories is available from the App Store on devices that have iOS 8.0 or higher.
The app includes films like “Duet” from Glen Keane, “Buggy Night” from ATAP, and “Help” by “The Fast and the Furious” director Justin Lin. Some limitations on Android continue today, as the Google Play version still indicates that Spotlight Stories is “not yet compatible with all smartphones”.
The app is a free download, here on iTunes.
