Google Jumps on Timehop Bandwagon With ‘Rediscover’
Google Photos, at least the revamped version of it that is separate from Google+, is still a relatively new thing for a lot of users. Share with whoever you want, however you want, whether that’s via email, a social network, or by showing the person next to you. Probably not, but Google does, and today it has publicly called attention to a feature in Google Photos that will bring these past memories back to light.
Another change is that now you can reorder the photos in the album. Computers unfortunately are not yet good enough to sort out the bad memories from the good ones, though, so an opt-in model is the way most companies seem to be approaching this right now. Chief among the host of these tiny little changes is the ability to tell Google when an image was taken. Every time you open up the app, it now surfaces photos and videos taken on that date in years past – much like how nostalgia app Timehop works.
By opting in, you’ll get cards in the Assistant view reminding you of photos from events you may have forgotten about, including a collage featuring people and places from that day in the past.
