Google just launched Datally, an app to save your data
Google claims it garnered over 500,000 users, and helped them reduce their mobile data consumption by up to 30%.
“Those living on Wi-Fi or with large data plans may not notice, but for many users around the world data is like money to them so they budget it”.
Datally helps you to control, save more and do more with your data, Caesar Sengupta, Vice President, Next Billion Users, Google, said in a blogpost.
If you have a Google Home and Chromecast device, once properly set up (instructions here), you have a bunch of voice commands available to use. In fact, there are still some who search Google Finance on the Play Store, only to find that it’s not there anymore. That changed a tiny bit in recent days, though, as Google Home just got support for a new app: Crackle. In simpler terms, you will allow some applications, say WhatsApp, from getting blocked by Datally. Hit “Continue” to get started. The app also generates customized recommendations including the ability to activate reminders to save data.
Most of our mobile data is often consumed by processes running in the background.
Note 2: Setting up VPN connection allows Datally to monitor network traffic. While advertising has become an unavoidable part of our online existence, some forms of ads are borderline annoying and malicious. You may find different results, though. Moreover, you can see the list of all the apps and the data eaten by the relevant apps. Datally will also notify you about Public Wi-Fi hotspots that may be available nearby. Once you’re done, don’t forget to rate the network quality to help other users. For example, if you’re using an app and a click on a UI button opens an ad, it will be treated as a violation of Google policies. Upon exceeding, your data will automatically be turned off. You can view how other Datally users have rated the Wi-Fi network and also possible to rate Wi-Fi networks that you have connected to. It shows you graphs of how much data you’re using on a daily, monthly, or weekly basis. So choose your methods wisely.
