Google launches Android Oreo (Go edition) for entry-level devices
Users can transfer files directly from their phone to a nearby phone through Files Go. Safe Browsing alerts will display for all apps and websites that appear to collect the user’s information without first acquiring explicit consent.
Alongside this, Google also rolled out its light apps such as Gmail, YouTube, etc.
Announced on Tuesday, December 5, Android Oreo (Go Edition) will be launching as part of the Android 8.1 rollout on December 6. Google, for instance, is touting that apps designed for Android Go will have at least 15 per cent faster load times. FYI, all Android Go devices will be upgradable to Android P as and when Google announces it. While the lightweight Android version is available for manufacturers and developers, the final build is expected to roll out soon on new devices perhaps early next year.
All in all, Android Oreo (Go edition) looks to fulfill Android Go’s promise by delivering lean, but still capable, software on entry-level hardware.
Android’s data saver feature is on by default. Saving up on the internal storage in the form of smaller apps and a slimmer OS should help improve the device performance on low-end smartphones.
Android Oreo devices with 512MB to 1GB of memory will come with the all the Go optimizations. Phones running Go edition software has the same kind of security features as a standard Oreo device.it also comes with Google Play Protect. The app has three basic functions including freeing up space by deleting unwanted messages and more, finding files, photos and other content faster and sharing files without going online with people nearby. The app prompts users to delete heavy files or files from a particular sources (for example, WhatsApp), and allows them to delete the said files in just two taps. Even most of the apps designed for Go edition will come in less than 5MB in size.
Files Go helps smartphone users manage their files and storage space.
