Google launches public transport app in Delhi
Google India has launched a new app dubbed as Delhi Public Transport Offline that offers its users with offline directions for Delhi Metro and bus.
The software solution is now available only for Android, and as the name indicates, it will deliver routes, timetables and directions for buses and metro in New Delhi.
As someone who has lived in Asia and travels the region regularly, I’m hugely encouraged by this new app. Google Maps is already a must – where it can be used – but local apps like these have vast potential for locals and visitors alike. Google claims that the app does not use any data for directions’ queries or timetables. The app is free to install and use, and supports DMRC Metro, DTC bus, Gurgaon Rapid Metro, as well as DIMTS Orange buses.
The Delhi Public Transport Offline app has been designed by Google as an experiment in order to help travelers and commuters residing in the Indian capital.
Around 2.60 million people travel by Delhi metro these days according to the latest ridership data. App users can also give feedback to the Google maps team by going on the button at the top of the app and the feedback will be incorporated into the future versions of this app and for Google Maps, as per the search giant. The app will also deliver information related to delays and other news, but you’ll need an Internet connection for this, though. In a country like India where majority of the smartphones are low end devices with smaller screens, Google has taken into consideration that the entire app is wholly plain text, which actually makes it look very readable.
