Google Maps for Android updated with UI improvements, map sharing options
Now, tapping the header image or photos section on a place page brings up a grid view of the gallery of place pictures, thereby giving you a visual understanding of the place more quickly. The users have to tap on a photo to get a grid view of all of the images other Google users have posted to Maps. One single tap will remove unnecessary interface elements like the search bar or quick-launch for directions. However, this feature doesn’t work in turn-by-turn navigation mode.
Google has published an update to its Android mapping app, as noted by Android Police, that allows users to hide certain UI elements and adds support for new sharing options. You can also share your custom maps made with My Maps with others. It does not allow you to post pins directly in events, though, so you’ll still have to play the text game if your party has to switch locations.
The new feature is available in Google Maps 4.8.0, and makes it much easier to send a map pin to someone on a desktop computer.
The new transit directions provide more route choice and real-time arrival information where available making it easier for users to be able to plan their day and travel arrangements.
