Google Maps Lists Feature: How To Create And Share Your Favorite Places
It’s quite easy to get started, you simply need to open the Google Maps app and find your favorite spot on the map. To add a location into a list, navigate to it in the Google Maps app and tap the “Save” button to choose from a collection of pre-set lists, or users can create their own custom lists. This new feature would enable users to make a list of places, and it can be starred, saved, and shared with friends.
These bucket lists can then be accessed at any time by tapping on the side menu to open Your Places (the first option in the drop down menu). Additionally, you’ll also see special icons for areas you’ve added to a list when on the actual maps within the app.
As users create lists, they can share them with others via email, social networks and more. While Local Guides could create and edit lists, the ability to share and follow them is new, and is rolling out starting today. If you do not want to wait for the over-the-air update to hit your device, you can head to Google Play or Apple’s App Store and download the new Google Maps update right now. The lists are also available in offline maps. Icons of saved locations will then appear on your Google Map.
The shared lists could also offer greater potential for tourism boards as well as travel and hospitality brands.
The launch is the latest update for Google Maps in recent weeks. Along with the iOS apps, list can be viewed both online and offline.
Lists can be further categorised and think lists like: “Happy Hour Places”, “Coffee Shops to Try”, “Nomming for Restaurant Week” and “Favorite Hiking Trails” can be created to help friends, your followers and family. It wasn’t a awful system, but if Google’s list feature had been around at the time, it would have been a ideal solution for us.
Last week, Google Maps began offering in-map views of nearby available car-hails as well as background on planned destinations, including reviews, articles, restaurant menus.
