Google Nexus 8 Spotted on Geekbench 3 Benchmark Test
The tweet was sent on August 17 and punters say that the Marshmallow’s release date is impending, which also means that if Google continues with tradition, the Nexus 5 (2015) will ship out with the Android 6.0 Marshmallow. Many smart phone manufacturers already have Android Lollipop 5.1 out, and a number of models are waiting for an update to Lollipop 5.1.1.
Even though the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update for Nexus 5, Nexus 6, and Nexus 9 is not available to the public, you can test the new firmware update, courtesy of the Developer Preview 3 builds that are up for download in Google’s repository here.
As for the HTC One M9, only those that possess the Developer Edition have Android 5.1.
Since the Android Marshmallow is headed its way out very soon, here are the devices that are expected to receive the update. The announcement was accompanied by a new statue of the Android mascot holding a large marshmallow at Google’s headquarters. If you aren’t familiar with Stage fright, it is an exploit that can run deep in the Android OS, and it will come to your device in the form of a video MMS file.
LG has also confirmed that its G2, G3 and G4 smartphones will receive Marshmallow, but made no mention of the G Flex 2 which was launched at Mobile World Congress in March this year.
Traditionally, Google pairs the launch of a new flagship device with a new operating system.
This rumor has also been reported on Neurogadget, as there are a lot of cues that reveal that LG might be passing up the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop update for the LG G series of smartphones and just “wait it out” until Android M gets released.
These reports are as yet unconfirmed by LG, but the fact that LG did skip Android 4.4.4 KitKat does lend credence to the theory. This is different than what Samsung does, which is consistently updating its devices with the latest of Android versions, even though the rollout might be slow.
Android 5.1 Lollipop is heading to the Nexus 6 along with the Nexus 9 first, but is the handset any good?
If the Nexus 8 does exist, it’s likely to land alongside the long-rumored LG Nexus 5 (2015) and Huawei Nexus 6 (2015).
The G3, on the other hand, will get updated to Google’s latest platform sometime in early next year. However, according to the Vine Report, the device will reportedly not receive the Android 6.0 Marshmallow.
