Google Offers Star Wars Themes for its Apps and Services
After choosing the Dark side, the background for my Gmail account changed to reflect my path, though there’s quite a bit more to enjoy than just glorified wallpapers and the such.
The film is the seventh in the Star Wars series and reportedly the first in a trilogy; all six previous movies were broken up into two other trilogies. And, obviously, Google will include a couple of easter eggs for good measure. Plus, fans who download the official Star Wars app will automatically get an Android Wear theme for their smartwatches, as well as various Star Wars events added to their calendars. In Google Maps, either an X-Wing or TIE Fighter will assist in reaching a desired location. The search engine giant just launched a new tool that allows you to customize how Google’s apps look depending on whether you choose to align with the Dark Side or the Light Side. Once you do pick a side, the Google services you use should have a little Star Wars flavor. Even more mundane apps like Gmail get in on the fun with a re-skin that adds Star Wars themes are as a backdrop and Lightsaber loading bars. He says the company is filled with dedicated “Star Wars” fans. The Millennium Falcon in Cardboard would be sweet! Google has already promised more “Star Wars” tributes as fans await the release of the new film, expected on December 18, The Verge reports. A few items are also only available on the desktop including Chrome, Gmail, and YouTube. Google’s Star Wars experience works on Android, iOS, Chromebook, Mac, and Windows.
This comes as director J.J. Abrams announced over the weekend that he has put the finishing touches on “The Force Awakens”, and that the film is officially in the can.
