Google offers virtual reality Street View
So whether you’re up for a leisurely jaunt through the English countryside, a wander through the busy backstreets of Bangkok, a quick look at the view from the southern tip of Africa, or any number of curated adventures available right here, with Cardboard pressed up against your face the experience should feel a whole lot more real.
Google on Monday detailed its virtual reality expansion plans and announced that its Cardboard app is now available in 39 languages and over 100 countries on both Android and iOS platforms. From there, maybe you could take someone (or multiple people) along for the ride and have them stay coordinated with you while they’re using Cardboard at the same time that you are.
While virtual reality has been perceived as more of a game- or entertainment-related technology over the years, it is expected to begin making an impact in enterprise businesses. Google Now integrates all the different things you use your smartphone for to make your life easier. The firm separately announced that the Google Street View is now available for Cardboard as well. The app allows anyone to capture and share Photo Spheres, which means you’ll find plenty of cool views off the beaten path. You need to remove your phone from the headset, then tap the back arrow at the top left corner of the screen. Google has figured out a way to keep students and teachers in sync with Cardboard.
Those rocking Cardboard headsets won’t have to wait for the update to roll out, because it was featured as part of Google’s last Streetview tweak, which dropped last week. I guess that’s the downside of having a few user-generated content – it won’t always be flawless. What most Android users forget is that they have access to unlimited storage space with Google Drive. More than that, these smartphones each have their own strengths, software features, price tags, sizes, and just about every other kind of variable possible. You’ll get a new, more detailed permissions notice-but it goes much deeper than that.
