Google Photos now shows photos, videos automatically from the past

This version of Google Photos also lets you begin to edit video – not much, but a little.

The update will be live with the new update to Google Photos, so ensure that you’re up to date and start that trip down memory lane.

Google Photos is one of the best photo storage options around. The cards will also tell the users where they were and who they were with on that day. The former is platform agnostic, showing you content from year’s past posted to whatever services you connect to it. It’s free, you can store as many gigabytes or terabytes of your memories as you want, and it has an incredibly smart built-in search engine. Computers unfortunately are not yet good enough to sort out the bad memories from the good ones, though, so an opt-in model is the way most companies seem to be approaching this right now.

The feature is reminiscent of Timehop’s functionality for various social media, although Google’s offering is of course limited to just items stored on Photos.

The new nostalgia-trigger Google Photos feature – which resurfaces users’ old photos and videos – has already been made available on Google Photos for iOS and the Web, with effect from Thursday.
