Google Pixel C could be a 10.2-inch Android tablet
This isn’t surprising if we have a look at the spec sheet, as the Pixel C won’t be a tablet per se, but a device that can also replace a laptop and offer better productivity on the go.
The news comes as Google prepares to make its new Nexus 5x from LG and 6P smartphone from Huawei available for pre-order in Ireland, the USA, Canada and UK. However, it adds that the device is likely to be released in November.
Google has opted for its next Pixel C notebook/tablet combo with detachable keyboard to be powered by Android Marshmallow, raising questions about the future of Chrome OS.
What’s interesting is that this new tablet will be marketed as a “Pixel” device, but will run Android as opposed to ChromeOS. The new tablet would essentially be a tablet version of Google’s Pixel line of Chromebooks, and the company plans to call it the Pixel C, according to Android Police, which claims to have received information from insider sources. The Pixel C won’t feature another company’s logo and will likely cost a lot more than a typical Android tablet.
Codenamed Ryu, the alleged Pixel C tablet is said to feature a 10.2-inch display with a pixel density of 308ppi.
Recall that the Pixel moniker as been historically used for Google’s premium Chromebook laptop.
If you were a fan of that lightbar on the back of the Pixel Chromebook, you’ll be happy to hear that it will be carried over to the Pixel C. It would also be foolish for USB Type-C to not be on-board, so expect that as well.
The website stressed that the tablet could get cancelled, but as of right now, it is in the works and expected to run a Nvidia X1 quad-core processor, Maxwell GPU, and 3GB of LPDDR4 RAM. One will be aluminum and the other leather, and they’ll charge automatically when they’re closed. There’s been no word on the price, but it probably won’t be cheap considering the price tags on the Pixel laptops.
